Air suspension breaks down after being parked overnight? What are the disadvantages of air suspension?

Publish Time: 2024-09-30
As a relatively high-end vehicle suspension system, air suspension is mainly composed of airbags, air pumps, guide mechanisms, pressure sensors, control modules, etc. It has light weight, excellent shock absorption, strong cargo protection ability, and can also achieve single-bridge or multi-bridge lifting, saving comprehensive vehicle costs. When the vehicle is driving at high speed, the air suspension can better control the vehicle body and make corresponding changes to different road conditions to achieve stable driving of the vehicle.

But air suspension is not without disadvantages, because its manufacturing process is complex, there are many parts, and the cost is high. In addition, compared with the traditional leaf spring structure, air suspension is more prone to damage. For example, some car owners mentioned that "the air suspension breaks down after the vehicle is parked overnight". What is the reason?

In fact, under normal conditions, if the air suspension does not work for a long time, it will gradually release some air. This is to avoid excessive pressure and protect system performance. Therefore, it is no problem for the air suspension height to drop appropriately when the vehicle is stopped. Of course, in this case, the height of the vehicle body will not drop too low. If the vehicle directly collapses, it is likely that there is a leak in the airbag or pipeline.

Of course, the owner can also start the vehicle to test it. If the air suspension can automatically restart and rise to the normal working position after starting the vehicle, it means that there is no problem with the air pump and the distribution valve, that is, there is a leak in the airbag or management.

In the process of using the vehicle, the owner can also judge whether there is a leak in the air suspension through some phenomena:

When the air output is less than the air intake, that is, when the leak is not obvious, the body may not sink, but the sound of the air pump "dong dong dong" can be heard. Which side has a loud noise, generally that side has a problem;

When the air output is larger than the air intake, the airbag will collapse and the amplitude of the bump will increase, especially when encountering speed bumps or potholes, the steering wheel is easy to deviate;

If the vehicle has fallen into a pit recently and then there is a "thump thump thump" abnormal sound, it may be that the spring or other parts of the air suspension are damaged.

If the vehicle is equipped with a central control computer board, the system fault light will light up when the air suspension fails. At this time, it is recommended that the owner find a safe place to park and repair as soon as possible or drive directly to the nearest repair station.

Since the air suspension is not as durable as the leaf spring suspension, the owner should pay attention to reducing the speed in time when facing complex road conditions to avoid sand and gravel splashing and damaging the airbag. It is also necessary to slow down on potholes to avoid severe bumps and damage to the precision parts in the air suspension. At the same time, when traveling in bad weather such as wind, frost, rain and snow, and passing through asphalt roads during high temperatures in summer, you should pay attention to keeping the airbag and piston surface clean.

Maintenance suggestions for air suspension system:

1. All air suspension accessories

Check at least once a month to visually check for damage and wear and scratches.

2. Airbags, pistons

Check frequently;

Check whether the airbag surface is damaged

Check the tightness of the airbag connecting bolts;

The air pressure is not less than 0.6MPa.

3. Control air circuit

Inspect before and after the first installation;

Inspect and keep the air filter clean and intact, if there is any, it should be replaced;

Inspect the air tightness of each valve body and pipeline connector for damage;

Inspect the connectors and fasteners of each valve body for damage and whether they are locked.

4. Shock absorber

Inspect at least once a quarter;

Inspect the tightness of the upper and lower connections of the shock absorber;

Inspect the sealing of the shock absorber;

Inspect whether the shock absorber is working properly.

5. Axle and guide leaf spring assembly and U-bolts

It is recommended to tighten with a torque wrench after the first installation of the new car, and then check it once a quarter;

Check whether the leaf spring seat and the clamping axle pressure plate are open.

6. Guide leaf spring bracket, guide leaf spring and connecting bolts

It is recommended to check after the first installation of the new car, and then check it once a quarter.

7. Axle lifting device

It is recommended to check once a quarter;

Check the wear of the rubber buffer block on the lifting bracket;

Check whether the bolts connecting the upper and lower lifting airbags are loose.

8. Limit wire rope

It is recommended to check once a quarter.

9. Gas tank inspection

Frequently check the working condition of the drain valve at the bottom of the gas tank. In case of frosty and humid weather, it should be checked once every half month and the water in the gas tank should be released.

10. Vehicle height (FH value)

It is recommended to check once a quarter;

The FH value is set when the trailer leaves the factory. The user must perform regular calibration according to the FH value specified by the trailer factory to keep it consistent with the trailer when it leaves the factory.

11. Height valve inspection

It is recommended to visually check whether there are obstacles around the valve every week to ensure that the valve control arm and the vertical rod are not interfered with within the limit range of the axle dynamic travel.
